Sorry for the noobish question but how do you determine a dangerous dive depth, for the various U.S. subs, without the red/green markings on the depth guages.
Thanks!!! ![]() |

There is no 'set' crush depth codified in a number. You take your submarine into the red zone you're risking the chance that sooner or later your pressure hull will fail. The longer you remain there the greater the odds.

in the 'stock' game if you click below the depth gauge it will bring up a different guage that goes to deeper readings and that has a red needle which I was told is what the "manual" calls the red area, I guess in one of the other SH games it was actually red and green. Or you could just keep going down until it crushes. ![]() Peabody

Yeah, once you weaken it gets worse. I have been at 36% hull damage and ordered a crash dive that literally crashed me. All the way into the black.
That's unmodded, of course. I think "Die Slower" (sorry if I mispronounced the mod name) allows you to have a few visual/audio cues before you actually crush.

I've got another 1000 questions regarding "how" to do something... Like, the manuals says that you can change the name of a mark on the nav map, but doesn't say HOW to change it. Great. Thanks. All in all, the game is great, luvin the stalking the prey, prey stalking the hunter mojo of it. So while the manual is quite possibly the worst manual ever, I'm glad UBI sunk their money into the game development, not the manual. A great manual can't make a poor game into a good one. |

![]() And it's too slick to use for toilet paper ![]() BTW, can't you determine crush depth by when the sub goes crunch? ![]() ![]()

You guys are too nice. Normally when the first post of anyone on a forum is something of a rant, with a couple of noobie questions that one could probably find the answer to by searching, they get met with derision. Which is what I expected, but gaahhh, this manual has almost driven me away. If I was a total sub noob and didn't know squat about sub and sub combat, I'd probably not get past the first tutorial. Let me put it this way, I had to do the first tutorial about 4 times to "finish" it because everything was so undocumented I didn't have a clue what had to be done.
And right now, I'm in utter fear of trying to use manual targetting, so yes, I am searching forums for a tutorial (which I see there is a legion noob guide, gonna have to check that out later) Anyhow, thanks for the answers! 'ppreciate it. This game has great potential - if I could just figure out how to unlock that potential. Can't change the mark, eh? Oh well, I've already got a method figured out. "odd" numbered marks is the target, even numbered marks are "my location". Mark1 is the targets initial position on contact, Mark 2 is my position when I make Mark 1. Mark 3 is a target position at some future time, Mark 4 is my position at the time I make Mark 3. That's a really easy way for me to track a target, where they are going, their speed, can I intercept on my current heading/speed, or do I need to move somewhere else. |

Note: Don't go below 350 feet in a Porpoise class in the stock game.

Dive till it gets really loud, and then go just a wee bit deeper.

Finding the secret of your sub's actual crush depth is sorta like that old joke about classified information; "I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill ya".

In real life there was no set crush depth only estimates. Each boat although the same model boat is differant. Example German u-boat crew loved type VII boats built in Hamburg shipyards because they had a reputation for being stronger than VII's built in other yards. And type VII u-boats had a safe depth rating of 100 meters beyond that the boat is not promised not to fail even know those boats have gone to 320 meters and survived. One boat crushes at 290 another at 340. Like life its a gamble!
