I will look through them.

However, I can tell you right now, that the "Lied der Internationalen" is actually the song of the german communist briagades in the civil war.

No U-boot captain would dare play that song. "Red is our flag, no mercy to the faschists etc..."

Carotlo,

Second complaint. I will turn it off for now and put on something milder. How about pinging and depth charges? Just kidding.

Hi!

Hmmm... I would think a song called, "Heil Hitler Marschlied" is likely to offend anyone who would be offended by music glorifying Adolf Hitler, as would a song whose title is: "Sieg Heil! Viktoria!" as "Sieg Heil" was a Nazi Party slogan dating back to the Hitler's appointment as Chancellor by Hindenburg in 1933.

Okay, I have listened through the files:

WHat you have listed as 70 Million ein Schleeg is actually a (dutch?) version of Lili Marleen, which is already included in GWX.

"Abgeschmiert aus Hundert Metern" is actually 70 Million ein Schlag (not Schleeg). The text is somewhat...right wing. As a german I wouldn't listen to it. Furthermore, it was the song of a part of the SA. So americans may want to listen to it, but I as a german do not.

Der Admiral Stosch marsch is just a typical march. Nothing wrong there.

Auf Kreta is a song about the german paratroopers and their assault on crete. I was actually surprised about this one, I expected a typical propaganda piece, but instead I got a song similar to those written during the wars against Napoleon. It is a song about a paratrooper dying on Kreta and missing his girl and home. I would not listen to it in the company of strangers, but there is nothing offensive in the text.

Auf Wiedersehn mein Schätzelein (which you have labelled as "auf wiedersehn mein schatz") is a typical seamen's song which has got nothing to do with Nazi germany or the war. It is even song today. It is about a seamen leaving home.

The Badenweiler March is another typical march. Nothing wrong here, it was also already included in GWX.

Battaglioni I cannot say anything about, as it is in Italian, however I doubt any german captain listened to italian songs. Maybe french, but not italian.

Bomben auf Engelland is a typical propaganda piece about bombing England. It is about in the same league as english propaganda songs (smash the hun etc). I would leave it in, as it consists no reference about nazi ideology. It does advocate the bombing of english troops though (however no bombing of english cities).

Brüder in Zechen und Gruben is somewhat more problematic. I dislike it, since it has the lyrics "loyalty to Hitler. Loyalty to death. He will lead us to victory etc...". I won't use it.

The charlie orchestra piece is completely wrong. Swing and Jazz were banned, so it should go as well.

the file copy_of_ritter-der-nordsee.mp3 is Ritter der Nordsee. It is a typical propaganda piece and contains one reference to Hitler, but nothing like loyalty etc. I would leave it in, but it is your call. It has one reference to Hitler "we sail under the flag the Fuhrer gave us" etc, but again, not worse than allied propaganda songs. No reference to Nazi ideology as such.

The Gruss an Kiel march is just an ordinary march. No problem there.

The Heil Hitler march needs to go.

J'attendrai is a classic (see Das Boot) and needs to stay.

For Kameraden auf See it is the same as with Ritter der Nordsee.

Der seewind is already included in GWX. It claims the norht sea as the "german" sea, but that is about it.

Mit Mercedes Benz voran is a typical propaganda piece about the use of mercedes benz machines in the air force, navy and army. It has no racial edge.

piersgibbonuboat needs to go. English post war program about a german uboat? Not for me.

Rüber über den Kanal contains one reference to Hitler (we follow when the führer commands) and is about the planned invasion against England (Seelöwe). In tune with the earlier propaganda pieces, it contains some insults against Churchill and Chamberlain.

Sieg Heil Viktoria needs to go.

uboot am Feind is typical propaganda about heroic uboats taking revenge on the british. Again, I wouldn't listen to it just for the sake of it, but it fits within the context.

unknown1 is SIeg Heil Viktoria and needs to go.

unknown2 is a song called "Ade Polenland". It is somewhat problematic as it pictures the brutal occupation of Poland as a happy time with german soldiers fraternizing with the polish and having a good time in the beautiful polish landscape. It is not problematic because of the lyrics (in fact, they do not contain a single slight against the polish but are full of praise for the wine, the beaches, the friendly polish bartenders and girls etc), but because of the contrast with reality. So I leave it up to you. The lyrics are not racially charged or something, but knowing what really happened in poland with mass executions etc, it kinda leaves a sour taste.

Okay, I forgot about some.

Unknown3 is a march I was unable to identify. It contains no lyrics as such and therefore is probally no problem.

Unkown 4 is a song called "gegen Briten und Franzosen". I would delete it because it has lyrics like "As soldiers of Adolf Hitler we will exterminate the vernim" etc.

Wir fahren gegen Engelland is actually not Wir fahren gegen Engelland, but another superfluous copy of Ritter der Nordsee.

wir haben Tag und Nacht... is the "Ubootlied". I would leave it in, as it does contain lyrics like "we bring fiery death", but it is not racially charged.

As I see it, any song a U-Boat crew might have listened to is fair game. I'm not for this censorship of songs deemed unappropraite. They're historical relics in my opinion. They certainly won't make me a nazi. Same as me singing along to Toby Keith wont make me an American patriot.

Okay, I finally got it done.

This is a collection put up by someone (I don't have his name anymore) a couple of years ago, at least. It contains German hits from 1910-1945, organized by year. It's all popular music, so very little political content. There is also a folder titled 'Extras', which contains 'Tipperary' and 'J'attrendai' along with a version of 'Bye Bye Blackbird' with words jabbing at the British Empire. Interestingly, there is a version of 'J'attredai' in German, sung by a guy, in one of the folders (1938, I think).

I included a little readme about installation, because there are a couple of different ways you can do it. It's a lot of music, and it's all period, and it all fits.

Have fun.
