Default Please help with GUI speed calculation

Love the GUI mod and am trying to learn how to use it. PROBLEM: On a large cargo (145,5 M) I am having a problem since it takes over 120 seconds from bow to stern. Supposed to find number of seconds on range ring and drag to length of ship. The range ring only goes to 100 where the heck would 120+ Be?

1. What is the longest it should take any ship from B to S?
2. What am I doing wrong?

Please excuse if this is a stupid question

i guess you mean OLC's Gui.

are you at a dead stop when you mesure it? you dont turn the scope (nor the ship), do you?

if even when avoiding that the ships takes too long you can:

-measure the range and bearing, (put that on the chart) and 3:15 minutes later another range + bearing mesurement (also on the chart), measure the distanse betwen spots and translate that into knots (100 metres = 1 knot)

-do the same, with a longer time span and use a nomograph.

Of course, the slower and longer the ship and the closer you are, the easier it is to hit, so your calculations can be off a bit.

Or split both length and time in halve and get the speed right anyway.

145.5m in 120 seconds= 1.21m/s, 1knot= 0.5144m/s, so speed= 2.36 knots

72.75 (73-ish on the wheel) in 60 seconds is also 1.21m/s

That very much depends on how slow it is. Is it stationary? Answer: An eternity! Moving? Answer: Alot quicker!

Nothing, see below.

This is not a stupid question. The layout of the Range/AOB wheels used by joegrundman and OLC was not intended for this purpose, so it's just bad luck for us that the word 'entfernung' is in the way of those numbers and marks. Just remember this is in effect a multiplication/division-wheel. If you do the same to both numbers (divide length and time by 2; or even easier 10, which is the direct opposite side of the wheel) the result is also the same.

Honestly, I find myself using a nomograph instead of OLC's GUI to calculate speed. I've found that its allowed me to enter the info into the TDC all at once, and fire off eels much faster. Although, I really dont have a very good success rate, so take this as you will
