Default Day of Defeat: Source hate thread.

GOD I HATE THAT GAME!

I'm one of the veterans of DoD, having played since the very first beta ever for Half-life 1 to untill the final 1.0 product. I loved the game, still rank it as best of the best online WWII shooter. And I was darn good at it too, record being 800+ kills 150-200 deaths on a 24/7 Caen server. The players were usually good company and actually listened what the better players told them to do. All in all, very good online game.

Ok, I decided grab the DoD:S last night as it was only $12 (= ~8,5€) and waited impatiently for it to download. Sooo, I finally got it installed and went in-game to check the goodies. The problem was that the diamond of the whole DoD series wasnt there, no DoD_Caen map. WTF is that? It was the most popular map! Like taking de_dust out of Noob-Strike. STUPID!!!

Right, atleast Avalance was still there, so off I went to a server hosting the map. Ok, the gui reminds me of the non-source DoD, that's good. Let's take a look at the weapons.

Garand - Check
Thompson - Check
BAR - Check
30.cal - Check
Springfield - Check
Bazook... WTF!? A FRICKING BAZOOKA!? Great job on that one!

And where's the M1 Carbine? (Yeh, I know you get it with the sh*tslinger guy (bazooka), but there used to be a choice between Garand & Carbine on the Rifleman! That was one of the best weapons of the game!!! STUPID!!!

Right, let's check the Brit weapons! (CAnt wait to fire the Bren again, that was nice. )
.
.
.
.
.
WHAT!? Where's the Brits!? Why make a new version of a game and take a whole team out in the process!? Oh well, I hated the Brit team anyway.. they replaced american team on Caen at one point. STUPID!!!

Ok, Germans. Again, I see the bazooka there. STUPID!!! No, MG34. Again, instead of adding stuff, they've taken things out (except the bazooka, STUPID!!!).

Okie, maps. Like I said, no Caen, which immediatly lowered my enjoyement level from 100 to 10. There's no open maps anymore, hardly no places to hide as a sniper, tons of small alleys. Where's the fun in that? STUPID!!!

The gameplay remains pretty much the same. Except the weapon balance is changed, to worse. MP40 is deadlier than a Tiger tank, same goes for STG44. Now, the allied Thompson & BAR are made worse, the recoil is huge. And the Thompson cant shoot straight (just today I emptied a clip from maybe 7m to a enemy, none hit). You can now shoot with sniper rifle on the move, the scope doesnt go away like it used to. STUPID!!!

All in all, one can clearly see it has been made more to the Noob-Strike fans than the old-skool DoD veterans. STUPID!!!

Rant over and back to DoD:S, it's like whipping yourself but it's still DoD abit deformed, but DoD. Dont worry, baby, I wont leave you even if you have three eyes, 17 fingers and two fricking mouths.

Oh I liked DoD a lot. I played it most in the version when they added the paratroop maps and the British. Used to play it with bots too. It always fitted in for 30 minutes of WWII shoot'em up to improve the mood.
Now, I need to get this old version with its bots back (thanks Dowly).

@Boris

Yes, I have RO too. But DoD is a DoD. There's certain feel to it that RO doesnt. And as for RO crapping all over DoD, yes, very true atm, but if it would be DoD 3.1, RO would be begging for mercy under the superior balance & gameplay of the 3.1. Besides, newer cames tend to lag alot more than games based to Half-life 1, making it harder to hit anyone.

The reason I'm never tempted to get a Remake of a old game I used to like a lot
it's mostly very dissapointing when you check it out.

I'll get on your bandwagon Dowly I've never played, but I'm sick of WW2 shooter games.

Day of Defeat Source is more of an arcade game now and not so much a strategy game as the first one was. I personally like to play it off and on for a good time of shoot-'em-up action. However, gameplay can get very repetitive as weapons are not balanced, they are in NO WAY historically accurate, and the game has bugs... lots and lots of bugs...

6.5/10

I am somewhat skilled w/the Greasegun in DOD. When it wasn't there in DOD:S, I didn't bother playing, anymore.

I'm really good with the Thompson in DOD:S and the M1 Carbine... but that's all. The rest of the selection is ****.
