As Britain basks in sunshine, why heatwaves and malaria 'could kill thousands within five years'

Yesterday was declared the hottest February 12 ever - as Britain was warned that climate change could lead to thousands of deaths during heatwaves and outbreaks of malaria.

A report said there was a "high risk" of a dangerously hot summer within five years that could kill 6,000 people.

There is a one in 40 chance that by 2012 the South East will have a heatwave that could cause 3,000 immediate deaths and 3,000 more later, it said.

Well, the DM would like to think so. Reality is most likely somewhere in between

And they've reached this conclusion because we've had a slightly less rubbish February?

Its hot here and we have a big lake in the middle of the city. we dont have malaria and if the temp hits 35 or 40 c we dont all keel over and die.

Here ya go Steed - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7240463.stm - Seems just the opposite than the FUD campaign article above claims - this heat wave (assuming it ever happens since we are headed for an Ice Age instead) will actually reduce deaths.
