Default I need some serious help with saving games in GWX2.0

I've had to restart my second patrol 3 times already because the saved game kept crashing. I have no idea why it is doing it, but in the my first patrol I had absolutely no problem saving games and then loading them. I haven't done anything different with my computer or durring my patrol. I know you're not supposed to save while submerged, but are there any other times when you shouldn't save? Also I've never had this problem with 1.03. I think from now on I'll play the whole patrol in one go, pausing while I'm out of the house or sleeping, but I hope this gets addressed in 2.1. In the mean time does anyone have any tips on saving games procedure in 2.0?

Do not save when:
1. submerged (as you allready know),
2. close to ports (50 km is a safe distance for sure),
3. close to other ships (50 km is a safe distance for sure).
I don't remember more rules, but there are some additional rules I obey, just for safety. I don;t save when:
4. accelerating or slowing down,
5. turning,
6. reloading,
7. periscopes up,
8. repairing or amaged (if the damage could be repaired),
9. loading batteries,
10. going decks awash,
11. guns manned,
and so on, and so on. And I almost never have any save problems.

Default agree with Von Mumit- follow those rules and you will avoid disk crash -

but #1 reason for crash has been saving while submerged -that has been a guaranteed crash on restart every time for me with GWX 2

What about when you have just sunk a ship, should you put some distance between yourself and the wreck and then save or can you do it as soon as you get the confirmation message that it's going down?

Strange thing about that...

I have saved submerged many a time and never had a problem with saved game reloads...do not understand what makes me different.

To answer your question, I would personally wait til I got out of sight of them...or they go completely under...and then save it...particularly if you are having problems...

I always let the ship sink, then hit K on the keyboard to check, you can`t always count on a ship Icon on the Nav map. I put some distance between me and the vessel then save, you don`t want to be close to her if she explodes causing you damage, and casualties.

I save whenever and wherever I can. I have had CTD's occasionally but I wouldnt say Im plagued with them.

Just save often and under different conditions. For example you get a contact report make sure you are surfaced and save. Then when you close in.. save again... I usually dive to periscope depth and save again when Im in shooting distance. My patrols have had up to 8 or 9 saves a piece.

I think corrupt save files appear randomly, its equal if ur submerged or not, if your near enemy ships (well they may lose their waypoints.) or not. I thought the same, but i was wrong and found out it isnt my fault, you can save wherever you want (well not near harbors, remember the ships waypoints ^^) Just a typical ssh3 "feature" -.-

So sounds like it's almost a random phenomena and one can save anytime they want to, except near harbors.

right, just save more often and you will have other savefiles if one is corrupt

The save problems are random
Some save submerged and never have a problem while others do regulary
No consolation to those suffering though
Try make regular saves and always 2 before exiting - the save and exit option has been buggy from the start so I do a normal save first
Not sure if there is a way to open a save file and read it
May be possible to find the reason then
