Mouse / Pointer Lags on new SH4 Install

I just installed SH4 lastnight, updated with the 1.4 patch. Video seems to be ok, but I am lagging big time once I start a patrol or training.

To adjust graphics, or any options, mouse pointer flows smoothly.

I have changed the processing on sh4.exe to affinity, as prescribed in another thread. No luck. After watching many 'how to' SH4 vids on youtube, I can see my performance is extremely bad. GeForce 8400GS 512MB Pci-E video and 3GB of 6400 memory. P4 3.4Ghz proc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I am relatively new also, and have noticed lag on the mouse pointer as well. My remedy is to rely more on keyboard shortcuts to combat this. Seemed to help me, though not a definitive answer.

Interested to see what more experienced members have to say.

Good luck

==========
My specs:
Intel P4D (dual core)
2.6 GHZ
2MB Ram
ATi 8X AGP x1650Pro 512 MB
Kill all unecessary progs once running
===========

(Maybe kill some fo your background processes like antivirus (if playing off-line) and Realplayer, Quicktime, JU Schedule, etc).

I actually turned vsync back on just to get rid of the mouse lag, and now have very smooth gameplay at 75 FPS in menus and 25 FPS in all but very heavy action at 1280x960@75hz.
I also turned off full scene glare, and light streaks, (or wth it's called), just from my racing sim days learning when I switched to ATI that this type of effect was CPU and GPU crippling when rendering 43 high-res cars.
NV used to be crippled by AA at about the same rate as ATI was by lighting effects.
I don't know exactly how much progress has been made in these areas on the newer cards, but I'm very happy to be running the sim at all on my old 9800Pro 128MB.
I also loosened my ram timings slightly and OC'd my little pressie 2.8 to a little over 3G, (use extreme cooling and caution if OC'ing).

I could write a novel of settings and tweaks, but there are plenty of capable gents here that I'm sure will chime in with some more helpful hints.

I hope a little something in this post helps you guys!

Check your task manager to see if any non-SH4 related processes is taking up CPU power

Mouse lag means low FPS which means
* Time compression too high in navigation map
* Monitor resolution too big for the video card in 3D.

As you can see here, 8400GS is a BAD card for games, while x1650Pro will not let you play in resolutions above 1024*768.

Thank you maerean_m, I think that might be my solution. I will certainly post later on tonight, as I will be picking up a new video card, anything seems to be better than the 8400 GS. I will do some research today and post later.

I just installed the Geforce 8800GT 512MB, incredible! The different between this and the 8400GS 512MB is incredible. No more mouse lag in the game. No lag at all.
