I'm on my first GWX patrol (not counting the one that wouldn't load from a save). I'm a little concerned about what constitutes a hit or miss now.
I was just west of Lorient when I spotted a coastal merchant in the middle of the day. Weather was just rough enough to preclude guns so I dropped to scope depth. I fired a steam torp with magnetic trigger 1m below her keel - saw a beautiful geyser erupt under the bow. Next thing I know, my WO is announcing "torpedo missed"! I had accidentally left the event cam on for this patrol so I had actually watched the eel detonate directly under the merchant. Since when is an explosion under the target a miss? Tony PS: What's a Town Class? About half of the referrences I find say it's a DD. The other half say it's a CL. And I found one that says it was really a CA that they just called a CL so they could get around treaty limits. ![]() |

Kaluen trongey,
I have had miss reports that were successful hits. :hmm: Did the ship you hit/missed eventually sink?

I have known torps with magnetic pistols to go off prematurely in rough seas, had one the other day in fact, but never to my knowledge have I seen one explode underneath the target and been classed as a miss. I tend to go for impact pistols over magenetic because of this.

Happened to me in Stock SHIII, doesn't seem a GWX problem:hmm:
Anyways, at that point, I did get the credit for the sinking, so what the hell! Let good old Bernard clean up his ears next time he mans the hydrophone!

Half your references to a Town class are right
And the other half are right too :rotfl: http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/town_class.htm http://uboat.net/allies/warships/cla...ID=24&navy=HMS The Southampton\Gloucester classes of light cruisers are oft refered to as Town class also - although all are named after cities lol |

I had to hurry. I guess the sloop I harassed had told him I was around so he was dropping DCs shallow, and nowhere near me. He was about to sink himself so I figured I should jump in and get credit. ![]() |

![]() The first one didn't seem to have any effect, so SH definitely treated it like a miss. All I can figure is the dice said Premature just as it passed under the ship so even though it was a miss it still looked good, or even though it was good it was still a miss, or something. Merchant didn't seem to notice since he just kept his course and speed. You'd think that big bang and all of the water blowing up in the air around his ship would have made him think something was going on. Tony |

Since I use magnetic pistols frequently, at least late war when waiting for the ships to enter the perfect AOB is no longer an option, I´m used to this. It does happen more often in ruff seas and low visibility. You still get credit for the sinking.
It might be that the game reads a direct physical hit as a torpedo hit, as an magnetic torpedo explodes without the physical contact it may be considered as a miss:hmm:
