Default AI plane question

I hadnt played SH4 in a long time while I waited for good mods to come out. Well now that there are some good ones I have reinstalled it and am having a great time. I attacked a convoy and was overjoyed that the destroyers were much smarter than before and really gave me hell. One question though, the airplane AI seems very strange. When attacked by bombers everything seems ok, they drop a bomb and their aim is pretty good. However I encounter Zeros (I think they are called) a lot. Lately I have not attacked them and stayed surfaced just to see what they would do. So far, they havent fired a single bullet or dropped any bombs. They dive at the sub and pull up at the last second, it really looks like they are bombing me. But they dont drop anything. After that they leave, they dont make a second pass. Definitly something wrong here, is there a mod to fix this that I am missing? Thanks everyone!

That does seem odd as i'm running TM1.7.6 with RSRDC 221 and zero's have shot at me... you must be lucky in that the zero has used his ammo on someone else

Ha! Now that would be cool. Though I have to admit I doubt thats the case. I wonder why these guys wont attack me. Maybe if I give them the finger when they dive down on me. Its weird. Do you all think a reinstall should happen at this point? For the record, I've tested this about 5 times now with different zeros, they just dont want to hurt me.

Well, I remember stock SH4 the planes wouldnt attack at all, but then that got fixed. Strange just one type of plane wont attack me at all. Well at this point I might just reinstall, I had barely started a career. I'll let you know what happens.

I have a noob question!!!

I've heard that there are no real advantages to shooting down aircraft. Is that absolutely true? Should I ALWAYS avoid incoming aircraft, if possible?

Killing one wil give you a renown award... I do not know how much, but I think some planes are worth about 50.

For the damage they inflict, they really arent worth the risk. I dont even bother getting a crew member for my AA position
