Default First post- saying hello and such

Ahoy there- I liked the info I saw here and thought it'd be a great place to get more of my virtual sealegs as it were! I'd been into flight simming for years but SH4 was like a mermaid that has drawn me to unknown waters. I felt I got something out of the SH4 review here that gave me info as to how close to history or not it was, and some of the posts seem to be a nice supplement to the UBI forum, and so here I am.

I also recognize gentlemen from other boards I am acquainted with, and hope to grow and learn in this aspect of warfare that is a departure from that which I am accustomed.

A wee bit of background of myself: I was never in any of the services, but from enthusiasm about history have an appreciation of those who are/have. My father (b.1928-d.1973) was a merchant seaman for the US out of NYC, but I have only begun research into his career so cannot yet post anything about stories he told me as a tadpole until corroborated (tho I look forward to it when I do).

Anyway, just a quick introductory post, and tho I be lurking, I be trying to learn all I can.

~S~

Welcome. This Forum will serve you well. Unlike Forums set up by gaming companies as a kind of dumping ground for end users, subsim was set up and funded back in 1997 by Neal Stevens because of his interest in Naval warfare.

Plenty of knowledge to be found here.

Default Arrrrr!

All we need to drink on the Kraken comes out of the supplies of torpedo alcohol. Unfortunately, this cruise we took on a full load of Mk 18s. It's gonna be a long cruise....

Welcome aboard! Especially if you brought any good rum.

Hey thanks everyone! Can't remember the last time I had a reception like that.

Captains all, in spirit and bearing

I think I am going to enjoy it here very much!

Beer... hmmmm... I've been trying to lose the spare tire- how about rum?

Been in Sub School, getting my bearings: navigated around Pearl a couple of times surfaced, next time will do it submerged just to get as well-rounded a feeling for the boat as possible.

Lots of interesting stuff on Mods here, and best part they're all legal

Once I get a few patrols under my belt, I'll be sure to start checking them out.

Thanks again

~S~
