Some Noob questions

1. At what distance (yards?) can a sub skipper expect to be sighted by the bad guys in both daytime and night?

2. Did the Japanese have radar? And if so, what distance would they be able to spot a boat?

3. Does 0100z time just mean as it seems, 0100?

4. In port, on the crew management screen, do you fill up the DC slots at all or leave them empty until you approach a battle situation?
