So, I took a severe beating after attacking a convoy.
My conning tower was destroyed and the hull integrity was in the 60%'s. The aft crew compartment took some serious damage as well, although it was repairable. The crew compartment was full when the damage occured, but nobody showed up injured. I removed the officer from his berth to move him somewhere else within the sub. Upon trying to send him back to bed, I got the message that the compartment was "destroyed". I couldn't put any officer back in there. I could put enlisted crew in there though. Anyway, up to that point I only had one crewman seriously injured. He was in the forward tube when it sustained damage. Nobody but him so much as broke a nail. I finally snuck away from the escorts, surfaced and saved. Immediately upon surfacing I show FIVE dead crewmen, including the watch officer who couldn't be put back to bed. The weird thing is, watch officer was dead in the conning tower, the other enlisted crewmen were in the forward crew compartment. The bridge, although "destoryed" was fully manned, albeit with one dead officer (who, appeared very alive in 3D). Each time I load the save the same guys show up dead in the same places. So, what happened? Did these guys get the bends or what? |

This sounds to me like the old conning tower of doom syndrome from GWX1. Basically the game forces your men into the damaged tower and they die. ![]() But this was fixed in GWX 2.0. If you loaded GWX 1 because of your earlier crashes, then I suggest the turm2 mod which will eliminate the conning tower of doom. If you are using GWX2 and this is happening then I have no idea. :hmm:

If the conning tower is destroyed then the crewman you send up there are going to die, it has nothing to do with the IX tower problem, in fact happened to me with vanilla stock game in one of my first patrols.

hm, which you cant prevent because the conning tower is manned automatically?

Hmmm, well I'm definately playing GWX 2.0 and those guys are definately dying.
I kinda figured it was the fact that they were being forced into the destroyed tower. What I'll do is reload the game from the save just prior to my second attack (and subsequent drubbing) on the convoy. That'll give me another crack at the Auxilliary Cruiser which took two duds and wouldn't die. I'll also look into the turm2 mod. BTW, I'm sailing a Type VIIB. |
