Here's a tip I thought might be useful, particularly for those shipmates who find SH3/4 stretches their PC's resources close to the limit. I use a utility called FSAutostart, which lets you turn off everything you don't need when you go simming, meaning you can turn the wick up on the graphics and still get a decent frame rate. If you're going MP though, you'll have to leave some of the networking functions running and it's prudent to leave your AV running too.
You can get it free from here. http://kensalter.com/software/ Go through the list of services and apps and turn off what you don't need, then save the profile. Once you've done that, just run FSA before you run SHx. Run silent, run deep.......
