Default Doenitz has just pissed me off about bases

It's July '40, my boat has just came back from a patrol. I was happy to learn, that after liberation of France there were new bases on the French shore. I got even a personal (or maybe boatonal) invitation from BdU to report in Lorient instead of Wilhemshaven (an in-game message from BdU with my U-Boot number in the "To:" section). So I went to Lorient, to learn that I am "in other base", not in my own. I can't give medals and promotions, buy upgrades and so on (will the medals be lost?).

So I checked the dates. SH3 Commander says in the 2nd Flotilla information, that "from June 1940 the flotilla moved to Lorient", but below the story there is "Bases" section (probably extracted from the game files?) that states:
09-39 to 08-40 - Wilhelmshaven
09-40 to 08-44 - Lorient

Another strange game behaviour related to Lorient base was the invitation and further info. In June and July I got three (maybe more) radio messages informing that some "new U-Boot bases are available" (IIRC: Bordeaux, Bergen, Lorient). The Lorient message however was sent a week or more AFTER I got a radio order to report in Lorient instead of Wilhelmshaven. I suppose the sequence should be inverse.

Now my boat is resting in Lorient as "other base" and I'm a bit lost. What could I do not to lose the promotions, medals, ability to set torpedoes and so on? :/ Any tips?

If anybody's been caught in the Lorient trap, I invite him for a beer or two in the local pub. We will stay there as long as Doenitz needs to clean up the mess on his deck.

The key word here is "from". "from" <> "in". In RL it took around a year for all boats of 2 Flotilla to move from Wilhelmshaven to Lorient. The thing to remember is that this text is merely an overview of the flotilla's movements, not your movements. The base dates reflect your movements as an individual boat within the flotilla.

Anyway, what was the exact message that you received? Was it:

"A new submarine base is available for operations in Lorient." (received 13-15 July)
"U 30, 52, 34, 99: Report to the port of Lorient." (received on 3 July)
"The base was changed to: Lorient" (received 1 Sep)

If it was either of the first two, ignore it. Only the last message means that your base has been changed. And in GWX and stock you will *not* get this message until midnight on 1 Sep 1940 (and only once - unlike other messages it isn't repeated).

First, I wasn't trying to blame SH3 Commander for anything, I just used it as source of information about the bases.

As to messages, first I got ""U 30, 52, 34, 99: Report to the port of Lorient." (and I play U-52... :rotfl, and some time later "A new submarine base is available for operations in Lorient". I took this as information that ma base changed... Now I'll now for the future.

Thanks you for the reply, very informative.

I never thought that you were blaming SH3Cmdr. The description and date information is defined in the game files, not SH3Cmdr. SH3Cmdr merely reads whatever is already in the game (in your case GWX2). So the thought never crossed my mind.

I was simply explaining why a flotilla's description will differ from the actual base change dates.

If anything, your comment is valid feedback for the GWX team, as the combination of the three messages have confused more than just you. Personally, I'd remove the "U 30, 52, 34, 99: Report to the port of Lorient." message altogether and change the "A new submarine base is available for operations in x." to something like "A new submarine base is available for operations in x. U-boats will be advised individually when they are to transfer to this base." or "A new u-boat base is available for resupply use in x.". Just changed to something that removes some of the ambiguity and implication that it's a player base change.

Well, I'm not actually caught in Lorient, but I've read the messages the same way as you and have been working my fuel load this patrol on the basis that I only have to make it to Lorient 1500km away, so I'm inclined to sit in the pub with you if that qualifies.
