Default same patrol grids again!!!

lo all

does anyone else get the same patrol grid again and again....its quite maddening really....especialy if its weeks of sailing away.
ive set my own in commander but it still happens sometimes
is there a fix or am i being a complete bernard and screwing something up:hmm:

secondly i was patroling in the north sea around the time of the norway invasion
and as the gwx manual states the norway invasion would be a part of the game world ...i sailed north around the tip of norway and waited.....after a couple of task forces passed by at 26 knots... nowt much else happened.
what am i missing
wheres the best area to patrol during the norway invasion... to see the most action
kind of feel i missed out a little and would be prepared to reload that savegame

Yeah I have been assigned to BF 47 like 5 times in a row. Not that it really bothers me, that square stinks and I never go there. I don't see the point in following their directions anyway, it's not like the game increases the chance of merchants in the area just because it's your grid to patrol.

As for weserubung I would say between Trondheim and Narvik. I encountered two taskforces there (and some with only destroyers which I avoided). But one with a fleet carrier, they were headed right towards me so it wasn't hard to sink it. I also encountered what probably is meant to represent Warspite and 8 destroyers, but that class isn't in the game so it was Nelson or Rodney. But at a distance of 6km I had to use TI with medium speed (during daylight) and one destroyer spotted them. Well you can figure out the rest, no hit of course.

You can get the same patrol grids by setting the time in port to too little
The way it works - if I understand right - is the grids are changed on a monthly basis in the flotilla cfg
If you leave on the 1st of the month and spend only a few days on patrol then only a few in port when you set sail next you are still in the same grid allocation month therefore get the same grid
IIRC was one of the reasons date between patrols was set to 28 so you would move on to the next grid allocation month

As the invasion was the early hours of the 9th April most of the freighters carrying supplies left way earlier
Some were even in Norwegian ports when it began

Ready to sail

Have come across them myself before

I get this a lot. Seems to me to be an issue with the saved games.

When you dock, two saves are automatically created - one "after docking" and one "before leaving port" if you see what I mean.

If you load the first of the two - say, because you accidentally dismissed the wrong crew member - then you'll get reassigned the same patrol grid again (and I don't just mean a random patrol grid from the same month, I mean the exact same patrol grid). Very annoying.

Both this and the bug BBW mentions can worked around by setting days in port to 0, adding 28 days manually (by setting "days in port" to 14 on the embelem upgrade and applying it twice between missions) and then getting SH3 Commander to assign your patrol grid for you. A bit of a hassle though.
