Default lack of surface battles

ive noticed that there is little to no german or italian presence in the Med... if my memory and history serves me correctly, werent there pretty intense and big naval battles in the med all the time?hence why BdU sent many subs to their deaths through gibraltar to help with the effort there?

Correct Sniper Fox.
Battle of Matapan was first example of Mediterranean sea mess.

Yes there is a lack of some surface engagements
But is a sub sim
NO subs were involved in the above mentioned battle

TBH there isnt the correct shipping to script stuff like that
No Warspite\Valiant or Barham on the Br side and no It heavy cruisers Trieste\Trento and Bolzano among others

so mod it in? lol thats the point im gettin at dude... its pretty easy compared to what GWX does to add a few warships and scripted battles, aswell as random warship patrols aswell... run with an german taskforce for a bit and engage another british taskforce? if you dont think thats cool, then you can take a trip through my torpedo tubes.

First of all there were few German surface warships in the Med, second RTFM there are some surface operations. The problem is that as BBW explained many models are lacking and are NOT easy to add in as you think, second is that being a sub sim, the surface battles are not necessarily going to be very realistic. Finally, no need to be rude-or threaten people by being shot through torpedo tubes.

I was just going to say that, why would Erich Raeder send any of his warships to a British lake? The only ones that may had gone there (but I don't know) could had been the S-Boote.

I'm with Steve Go ahead and mod it in if it's so "easy".

If you could be bothered to open up the campaign files that Bigboywooly has so painstakingly put together in the campaign editor you'll notice three things:

1) How much work he's put into scripting the major surface actions in the Atlantic

2) How many British and Italian warships and task forces are already in the Med some of whom come across each others paths at times

3) How much work it is to add a few more scripted battles.

Good luck with your work and we wait to see the result... Is it ready yet?

give me a tutorial on basic modding and ill start when my exams are done. id be more than happy to learn to mod and join the ranks of you guys... the sh*t you do is insane! and i didnt say it was easy... i made a comparison to adding more warships in the med to a massive overhaul mod...

also, seeing as 99.9% of my patrols have been in the med, why've i never seen a surface engagement?

As it was explained above there were not so many surface engagements during WWII in the Med. The Royal Navy was far too powerful for the Italian Fleet to risk an engagement (especially after Taranto in 1940). Most of the activity was conducted by small patrol or torpedo boats and planes attacking convoys.

If you hang around between Malta, Sicily and the southern tip of Mainland Italy you MIGHT, be in the right place at the right time when two opposing TF's cross paths. So fare I've seen two such engagements. It is rare but if you are in the right place at the right time you can see it. Matapan which was one of the two major Med surface engagements, is not specifically scripted into GWX for the reasons stated above.

To put them in yourself you can use the campaign editor which has help files that give you everything you need to put the units into the campaign files.

If one wants to see some truely intense surface-battles - not nescessarily in the Med though...which singleplayer-mission would your recommend? (from stock GWX2.0 missions, that is)
(There is a sp-mission called "Italia"...maybe that one, for the Med?)
