Default Milk Cow question

I'm running the GWX 1.3 & looking into refueling at a nearby milk cow.

I know you can:
sail close to the milk cow and hit esc
end mission
dock at...

However, I am wondering if it is possible to just go in and refuel & start out again while keeping your present patrol number and information intact?

I know from doing it once before that your present mission will end and you will start a new patrol number...

Yes that's about right, just get close and hit esc. Don't forget to get awards and qualifications. In GWX 1.03 I believe it just tells you to return to base, starting point "NULL" and you don't get any renown if you didn't get to you assigned patrol grid before topping up.. Not sure what GWX 2.0 does for you as I am still on my first patrol.

GWX 2 treats the milkcows the same as 1.03 and any other mod
The method used is a workaround to be able to use resupply
Twas one of the things dropped by the devs close to release due to time pressure - that and wolfpacks
Probably 2 very important features that should have made it in

So...It is not possible to pull in and refuel while enroute to your patrol area and still keep your starting patrol number and any sinkings you may have gotten while enroute. I guess that's what you are saying.

When docked you are awarded the renown for your sinkings, your boat is replenished and repaired (at a cost of one day for every % point). You may also award medals....in fact, the only thing you can't do is upgrade the boat.
If your using SH3 Commander, keep a note of your patrol grid and just pretend your continuing the next leg of your patrol and head there. You won't be awarded any further renown for reaching it, but as already explained, that is a game limitation that has been imposed on us by Ubisoft.

Hi. Just starting out with SH3/GWX2 but have been sub-simming off and on since Silent Service on a C64... When they were state-of-the-art.

Thanks for GWX2 it is outstanding!

Before meeting the tanker I used SH3 Commander to change the stay in port to one day only. First time I tried, started fuelling on 18 June 43 and finished 22 August. Understand is a limitation of the game system but there are work arounds for most issues and this seems a reasonable fix. At the next save I reset time in port to random.

Good Hunting

Welcome aboard Kaleun Randomizer

The one day stopover is automatic in GWX....but every % damage point costs you a further day

Thanks jimBuna...
That makes sense...Refit and move on with the next patrol number. I can live with that.

For each 1% of damage = 1 day in port pryor to restart...That also makes sense.

No mate....when you restart, your patrol grid will automatically be 'Null'. Remember what it eas and just go there when you restart as if nothing was changed. you won't get any renown for reaching a 'Null' patrol grid anyway.

For every % point of damage = 1 additional day at the milch cow, resupply ship etc.

Havnt the GWX team eliminated the renown for patrol grids and replaced it with tonnage quota? or at least in the next update?

:hmm:

Thanks!

As I wrote, first time at the tanker was some 60+days despite being undamaged, perhaps because I loaded using SH3 Cdr with the "stay in base" randomized?

One thing I discovered after departing was that my torpedo fit had defaulted to the generic Summer of '43 loadout and I lost my FAT II's that I had spent my scarce renown on before departing St. Nazaire. Bloody supply officers. Heh, heh, heh.

My Chief transfered off the boat too, wonder if he knew something I don't.
Good Shooting

60 days? Better check your selection for days in port. Milch cows or supply ships don't keep a wide selection of torps that you are able to choose so choose the torp wisely initially and accept what you will get later after resupply. In order that no one deserts me at a re-supply point, I have a habit of starting the new mission right away and then saving it.

Well I suppose you could start a new patrol with Commander and choose a spot to patrol close to your base, go sit & use TC for 24 hours, get your renown and then go patrol. When you get low on fuel just stop in and refuel & continue on. Go back to base when you are tired of that patrol. At least you would get the renown that way.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the assigned patrol grids anyway.
In the type II boat I would get assigned grids further away then my boat could travel one way.

I thought that the assignments would place you in an area of merchant travel for that particular year.. At least get you in the traffic area...However, for me, it doesn't seem to work that way.

A good plausable workaround
