Astronomers seam to be having a lot of fun finding new planets round every star.

really exciting is the the answer to the question if there is another planet in the solar system, a slow mover with a period of 5000 to 10.000 years, and being carried out of the usual area of the solar system by a real impressive distance. Twice it was claimed that such a planet has been found, and both times it was rated back then. Still rumours and an almost mystic belief that "he" must be out there somewehre stubbornly hold their ground - not only amongst esoterics and historians, but in the astronomer's guild as well.

Most often it is referenced to to the Sumerian system of astronomy, which was surprisinly high-developed and had some knowledge of characteristzics of the solar system that in the modern time we did not find out before the Voyagers passed the outer planets.

Exciting stuff. Speculating in this area is almost like adventure.

Anyway, I've heard of new planet finding for quite some time, so this is nothing new. They can see it in how the gravitational force disrupts that of the star it is orbiting.

Personally, there has never been any doubt in my mind that their aren't other planets out there. If Earth were the only planet orbiting the Sun, then I might call it off as Earth possibly being a fluke - let alone the unlikelyness this fluke would support life, etc., but since there are so many planets around this Sun - 9 in total (8 if you consider Pluto was de-listed!), then there is no way that this is not a 'normal' thing.

isnt it still 9 subman? I read in a paper a long time ago that a larger mass was discovered outside of pluto, and because it was larger than pluto they were trying to have it deemed a planet instead?

anyways, i agree, there is guaranteed to be life on other planets. Statistically, its nigh on impossible for there not to be!

Yeah, I read something of a larger mass outside of Pluto, but I believe it wasn't large enough to be called a planet.

Enjoy this with a light mind. While the basis of sumerian cosmology is lined out correctly as much as I can say (In read one book abiut it and that was longer time ago), the presentation neverthelss is - well, i just reocmmend to pay close attention to the soundtrack.

Should have won an Oscar for the best musical score in the fifties, I say!

The sumerians have described the astronomic clash in form of a war between divine armies, and how the victor ripped the loser apart. Quite a monumental read.
