Default PC State strikes again

Quote:
NHS patients told to treat themselves

Millions of people with arthritis, asthma and even heart failure will be urged to treat themselves as part of a Government plan to save billions of pounds from the NHS budget.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=SFJQCMFBXN1WXQFIQMGSFFWAVCBQ WIV0?xml=/news/2008/01/02/nhs102.xml
This is on top of Gordon's Brown's legislation to clamp down on fat people, smokers and drinkers. How can a Doctor say no when he or she took the oath to treat all? If I faced this situation I would demand they were struck off and take it to the courts as well. What this comes down to is saving as much money as they can and slow down the downfall of the NHS, to sum up private hospitals via the back door.

This stupid government bangs on about all the money they have given to the NHS don't they know a lot of money is wasted in Admin and red tape?

In some respects not a bad idea. On this side of the pond, getting doctor appointments is sometimes very tough. I was refered to a urologist that was not taking anymore patients as he had more than he could handle. On down the list I went until I found one who would schedule me in but it was over 4 weeks before he could see me. There is definitely a high demand but supply of doctors is very low. So, this is a way of relieving some of the glut in the doctor market place. Anyway, I had a procedure done (non-evasive) and pills were prescribed. He asked that I came back in 2 months. I see no reason to physically see the doctor. Over the phone consult would work fine with the condition I went to see him about. If I'm able to do this it saves me time off from work and having to go see him. Five to ten minute phone call would work just fine. He can schedule in someone who does really need to see him.
