I've read a novel in the 80's, it was about a German sub trying to get to Japan, transporting gold(?), but eventually was torpedoed and sunk. But I don't remember the name! Can anyone help me?

Sorry, I don't recall any novel but I do remember a history channel segment or mention of such an historic incident. Again, I'm at a lost to recall any specifics but you might want to try to investigate in that direction. Good luck. [make an intersting film, no?]

IIRC it was about treasure hunting, and the U-Boat part was a cutback. The plot sounds like one of those Clive Cussler novels, but it isn't! The book was a 500+ pages (perhaps a lot more) tome.
I remember a part of the book where the sub passed through the rose garden submerged. So I take it that it was late in the war. Then it was sunk by a British sub in the Indian Ocean. Last edited by Nico71; 01-10-08 at 07:15 AM. |

Are you thinking of Cryptonomicon, although believe it was published in the 90's.

The book is too new, as you have said. But I will check out the other books by the author. Now that I think of it it sounds like a slightly twisted U-234 plot. Uranium oxide.....hmmmmmm :hmm:
