Actually, she's more like USS "Wasp"......... the "Yorktowns" had a totally different funnel configuration. I suspect the devs used this model to avoid any problems with Northrop-Grumman since the "Yorktowns" were built by Newport News Shipbuilding, currently part of N-G. However, since the ships were DESIGNED by the USN's Bureau of Ships and NOT by the yard, I doubt whether N-G has even the slightest legal base for a case if UBI HAD made a faithful replica of the "Yorktown"- copyright rests with the USN's BuShips.

US copyright laws makes me crasy sometimes. I wonder how much a have to pay to those who inveted letters and shall I ask their inherritors before use them.

Unfortunately, USS Yorktown is still to be moded, since US carrier in SH4 is USS Wasp! Luckely, it was the most involved US carrieer in the Atlantic operations in the first stages of WW2. Furtunately, with some changes in 3d she could be remodelleed into Yorktown and even Essex classes. I wish I could see Lex and Sara as well one day.

I was pretty disgusted by the behavior of certain companies in recent years w/respect to aircraft and ship designs. You'd think they would show a little gratitude towards the people who are helping preserve our collective history - instead, they're hitting them up for $ and being as mean-spirited as possible while they're at it. I recommend that simulation designers simply model exact copies of historical vehicles and give them fictional names, just like several producers have done with famous car brands in the past.

Good work with the model - I agree that it is a better stand-in for the Wasp than the Yorktown.

The "copyright" issue has been overstated wrt ubi. They avoid ever talking about it in detail, but from what they have posted, and what various lawyers (not ubi lawyers) on a few forums have stated, this is the most likely scenario:

Il-2 printed the Pacific Fighters box art with the name Grumman (F4F) on the box, WITHOUT putting ®, ™, or © (whatever was required) (true, I own the box). They still had the standard disclaimer that they owned everything on the box. Northrop-Grumman (NG) had every reason—in fact a legal requirement—to defend their name. Ubi would certainly have had to recall the entire PF game and redo the box art (plus possibly pay damages)... OR, they could take the deal offered by NG. All this because whoever did the PF box art was a total idiot. If you can't touch type ™, ©, ®, you shouldn't be allowed to work on box art, period.

They took the deal. They didn't have to recall the box art, but they paid some damages in the form of licensing the right to use the NG property. NG got a precedent, and Ubi found themselves in a position where they alone were forced to interact with NG in this way.

That, IMHO, is why this happens ONLY with Ubi (every other game I see has accurate images of guns, tanks, planes, etc).

Hey Miner1436,

I have converted this Ship long Time ago named: NCV_EnterpriseCV6

Now, you come along, and will tell us that is your Ship also in your Readme:

"NCV Yorktown

For Silent Hunter III pc

Made by: miner1436

Works fine with GWX2.0 and anything else

This ship is ready to use with jsgme mod enabler,

Or if you wish to install manually the Files are already
sorted in the appropriate folders. Just copy them to the
corresponding directories in your SH3 installation.

Enjoy: miner1436

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not you converted this Ship look this:

The ID`s all the same like mine.
Don`t tell us that`s your converted Ships, change your readme.
and read this: Subsim's recommended modding etiquette

@ THIS FORUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What´s going on in this Forum?
Is it now allowed that every Body can take Mods from other Modders; exept GWX_Files, and released that as his own???

Whats is with the Subsim's recommended modding etiquette ??????????????????????????????????????????????????

Does it mean that all historic books reffering to Grumman F4F Wildcat are illigal since they quote pictures, colors and even blueprints? Perhaps, in case of PF they should use only Naval designation of F4F Wildcat instead tradiotional Grumman F4F Wildcat in books? No wonder, why modern games and movies on historic events start ressamble crasy dreams. For my opinion, it is stealling of history, but not protection of vintage copirights. They should start changing from the title then, since Il-2 is a design of Ilyushin buro.
The same noncense I had to do by myself in the Pacific Storm: Allies when had to remome Allison, Pratt&Whitney and other companies from aircraft engines designations to avid possible problems, while the engines are known under these names from the books.
