I'd never thought that this old boat could've made it but sailing at 6 knts I've managed to complete a patrol that took me over a month to finish. I had three objectives and during the patrol sank a passenger liner and two modern (large) composite freighters. Although I had to inch my way at about a 1000m to get good shots. Oh, one thing when passing through narrow channels and the Japanese occcupy the islands just make sure to submerge. Those coastal guns are deadly.

You should've seen my reaction with the coastal guns. It was Christmas Eve night. Folks either asleep or trying to figure out which end of the beer bottle is the drinking end. I had just installed a Bose speaker system on the PC. Great sounds and the diesel engine chugging along nicely. Then WHAMMO! the beer went one way and me the other. A big hole in my hull. Some crew members injured. Crash Dive!
![]() Chasing fast moving warships is out of the question in an S-18 though. It's near impossible to get near them. ![]() |

I do not know about coastal guns and the S class but I can tell you a few things about the S class and DD:

It would be nice to have a career only for S-submarine skippers. As It Is now, It´s not very realistic to spend over two months out to sea at each patrols. At 2/3 You seems to can sail on forever, but I guess the crew onboard would have starved to death before reaching port...

I had the s class for 5 patrols. I was ready to dump it after that for something more sporty

30-45 day patrols were typical in the Pacific theater.
