Best Driver for a Nvidia 8600GT ?

I've actually done some searching through these forums, but, can't seem to find an up-to-date thread on this.

I have a Nvidia 8600GT and, after installing the new 169.21 drivers; I've been having hard freezes in the middle of the game. Seems like I also had it with one of the 162.xx releases as well. Anyway, back when this was occurring with the 162.xx release, I troubleshot it assuming it was temperature related. I couldn't get it completely solved, but, when I tried either 163.71 or 163.75 (I can't remember), it stopped -- until reappearing in the last 48 hours after installing the new 169.21 release.
I guess, in the meantime, I'll rollback to the 163.75 and see what happens. But, I am curious - what driver is everyone running with a 8xxx series card ?
I have a real fondness for the old releases - 96.89 and the 97.xx series. But, they're an older driver - for a newer card, and I run ROW.
