I suspect I will be getting SOF under the tree this year.

once I have it what do you all advise. re mods and

things to see and do ingame.

I advise you to have plenty of time, there's no mid-mission save game feature :rotfl:

I think there's a list of mods thread here isn't there? I've done one or two and I know there are several others kicking about, I'm sure that particular thread lists them. I'd recommend giving the stock game a shot first though, it's not as bad as many people claim.
