Default New Mission Patrols in the Aleutian Islands

I don't know what it is about these sub sims that draws me to the odd-ball campaigns... It was the Black Sea in SH3 now it's the Aleutian Island Campaign in SH4!

I have created 19 loosely historical patrols centered on the 1942-43 Aleutian Island battles. These involved S-18 through S-35 as well as the Growler, Triton, Trigger, Grunion, Finback, Gato, Tuna, and Narwhal (had to use a Salmon class for the Narwhal).

Most of the patrols start off from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, a few from Pearl and couple from Port Angeles, Washington.

Each patrol has a mission description giving the historical background of that particular sub and the patrol it went on.

RADM "Fritz" Harlfinger, who served on S-boats in the Aleutians, described how dreadful it was:

"The conditions those boats endured up there are simply indescribable. It was God-awful. Cold. Dreary. Foggy. Ice glaze. The periscopes froze. The decks and lifelines were caked with ice. Blizzards. You could never get a navigational fix.

Savage arctic storms often swept down on Dutch Harbor, striking buildings with a wind nearing 100 miles an hour. The gales could easily wreck unprotected planes and tossed lumber and machinery about like paper. These storms caused more damage than Japanese air raids and were dreaded by the Navy

Moreover, the tides, currents, and weather throughout the region were often unpredictable and frequently treacherous, and the rocks and shoals of the island-studded archipelago posed a constant danger under the usual conditions of poor visibility from driving snow and rain, particularly during the long northern nights."

These files are v1.4 & JSGME ready. If you wish to install them manually, just copy them into your ...\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\SinglePatrols folder.

I hope you all enjoy these missions and any comments and corrections will be appreciated.

Just "finished" my first S-boat war patrol...well actually, my crew and I met Davey Jones compliments of a well executed air attack enroute back to port. Two merchants down, escort eluded, yes, I was feeling quite snappy until I forgot to pay attention...:p

Thanks for all your work on this great patrol package!!

Thanks, cgrimes! I haven't tried a sugar boat yet...can't seem to stay out of the Gatos and Balaos. This might be the perfect opportunity!

I am currently playing vanilla 1.4 . . . I presume that these are stand alone quick missions . . . would these files integrate into a campaign?

Thx Factor for the encouragement. I Like these sub sims for the historical aspects they call attention to. I learned alot about a part of naval action in WWII not usually known.
