Ok, I am ready to swallow my pride and beg some old timer who understands making major mods why it is I could never get my Victory-Mod to accept new patrol areas. When I released it back in early 2006 I said I didn't like the patrol method of scoring renoun points, but wanted units by 1941 to depend on ship kills only. I lied. It was sour grapes. Truth is I did at first attempt to use the extended patrol zones listed on the map in the South Atlantic and Pacific along the west coast of the Americas. But they never worked. I tried to use the same crazy triple call-out system used by the standard game. I tried to form them just exactly like the standard ones - making sure to get all the date-number callouts just right. But it still did not work.
THAT'S NOT ALL - when I also tried to alter the standard listed patrol zones to reflect the new war situations found in V-Mod, those would fail (even though I was calling out patrol areas already used in the standard game)! What this last change would usually do is just cause the same patrol grid to be called EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! So I gave up - I restored the old settings up to about 41 and then just allowed most of the career patrols to have a 0 (ZERO) patrol area. Now I am getting around to removing some of these kinks in my mod. The question is - has anyone else figured out how the grid system actually works? Are some of the grid numbers on the map bogus and not hooked up in the game? ![]() |

I've downloaded and installed GWX2, but haven't had time to run it yet. One thing ( IMHO ) which is very welcome as stated in the tome aka "The Great Book of the Boat" ( it's too big and way too learned to be a manual ) is that the GWX team ( honour, gratitude and awe to all ) have done away with renown for simply arriving in a grid square and hanging around for a day. Now renown has to be earned by making kills. 'Bout time, says I.

![]() A little known fact, while the game awarded you for reaching & patrolling your assigned grid, it NEVER awarded you any renown for manually returning to port.:rotfl:Bet you lot didn't know that. During testing & the decision of making this change, multiple patrols were made in SH3 1.0 to 1.4b & all incarnations of the GW mod lineage. We honestly thought we'd broke it but found that it never worked. ![]()

A bit of a correction here.
IF and only if your patrol grid is within the Kriegsmarine map, you will continue to get renown for reaching your patrol grid... and for completing 24 hours there. In areas outside the KM grid map... such as the Black Sea and Indian Ocean, you will not recieve any renown for reaching or patrolling your grid. The above will need to be clarified in the manual, as it refers to operationsal areas outside the partial KM map represented in SH3. Also, Danlisa is correct about renown not being awarded simply for the act of returning to your base. He is also correct that we thought that WE had broken it... instead it is a stock bug that has been with us all for a very long time without being noticed somehow. |

Yes, I know about not needing to return to port - I learned that back in April 2005. I am just talking about the fact that when you mess with the grid call outs in the Flotilla file, even if you copy the same format but just alter the order of the grid call outs, that the system hoses up.
This is what I am speaking about: Jan0100=AN46 Jan0101=AN48 Jan0102=AN41 Jan0103=AN81 Jan0104=AN55 Febr0100=AN14 Febr0101=AN28 Febr0102=AN11 Febr0103=AN73 Febr0104=AN67 March0100=AN21 March0101=AN68 March0102=AN36 March0103=AN55 March0104=AN84 April0100=AN12 April0101=AN26 April0102=AN38 April0103=AN59 April0104=AN62 May0100=AN35 May0101=AN52 May0102=AN59 May0103=AN67 May0104=AN81 June0100=AN73 June0101=AN81 June0102=AN69 June0103=AN21 June0104=AN51 July0100=AN13 July0101=AN84 July0102=AN34 July0103=AN53 July0104=AN44 Aug0100=AN23 Aug0101=AN16 Aug0102=AN87 Aug0103=AN84 Aug0104=AN59 Sept0100=AN87 Sept0101=AN84 Sept0102=AN53 Sept0103=AN52 Sept0104=BF26 Oct0100=AM53 Oct0101=AM89 Oct0102=AM79 Oct0103=BF14 Oct0104=BE21 these files repeat with slight changes three times per year. If I try to alter their order even slightly I have seen the system freeze up and give me the very same grid number each and every mission afterward. And I am also talking about the grids in the Pacific and South Atlantic, and Gulf of Mexico. I tried to insert those into 42, 43, 44, and 45 using a format that would lead palyers to critical parts of the battle action in my V-Mod. But all that comes up is Patrol area = 0. I am not here to make fun of anyone, just hoping some old timer knows the scoop on grid call outs. STENDEK U-Boat Base under water gate (Victory Mod) ![]() |
