Default GWX 2: install help

hi hunter's

just recieved GWX2 notification, with install instructions....

this is where it all turns to poopum for me.

ok:

1. do i have to uninstall SH3.
2. do i have to unistall old GWX and SH3 Commander.
3. should i unistall myself to pub for cider intake. ( sorry...)
4. do i need to perform roll-back, before hand, for any of these, except no.3.

in other words i'm not quite sure what to do with my set-up. this is what has been sent through today - 9th dec:

GWX 2.0 mod file URL's and installation instructions.
1. Create a fresh/brand new installation of GWX patched to version 1.4b
2. Go into your "My Documents" and delete the "SH3" folder you find there. Old Silent Hunter III careers will not be compatible with GWX 2.0
3. Create a new folder on your desktop and label it "GWX 2.0"
4. Download the "GWX2.exe file and all seven .bin files to the folder you just created on your desktop.
5. It is recommended that you burn these files to CD's or a DVD for safe-keeping
6. Double click the GWX2.exe file and follow the directions that appear.

these instructions appear - to me, on the surface, easy to follow, when actually they assume i know what to do, i.e No1. Create a fresh....

does this mean create a fresh install of recent ( old ) GWX or install new GWX ??

it might be a good idea to give us newbs a simple - 'hold my hand as i cross the road' explanation with install.

i also understand this may be a complete pain in the derrier for someone to do, but...
it would help enormously, i think ?

any one else agree/diagree ?

cheers !

p.s i'm not 'avin a go..!!

We're working on a full set of instructions, bu tin the meantime:

Uninstall SH3 fully & delete the SH3 folder in My Documents.

Reinstall SH3 and patch it to 1.4b (may already be patched to 1.4b, depends on your copy)

With all the GWX 2.0 downloaded files in a folder together, run the GWX.exe installer and point it to your SH3 installation.

That's it your done.

Create a fresh install of SilentHunterIII and patch to 1.4 THEN add GWX 2.0

You can either uninstall your current install ( GWX 1.03 ) or create a second one ready for patching

have not received my copy yet... but from what i have heard you have to run the installer over a fresh/ unmodified / brand new/ highly polished/ unmolested/ never before touched by human hands / unsoiled/ unspoiled/ clean as a whistle installation of SH3 that has been patched to 1.4b

this means dump SH3 entirely from your C-drive... wash SH3 off your computer completely.

in order to do this you must uninstall SH3, delete all the contents of the "ubisoft" folder and the ubisoft folder itself.

you must also go into my documents and delete any and all references to SH3...

in short - when you re-install SH3... your computer should have no memory of it ever having occupied 1kb of hard drive space AKA clean installation.

i dont think you have to delete SH3 commander but i figured it best to start from scratch so i have removed ALL sh3 associated material from my computer.

just before you install GWX, basically you should have an installation of SH3 that is pure vanilla... as pure as the virgin snow... the only change you should make to sh3 is that it should be patched to the appropriate version of 1.4b (US download version, or US DVD version or European version etc etc)

anyone correct me if im mistaken please

ask and ye shall receive

This is NOT a good idea if you have other ubisoft games, because those will then be deleted also,

just delete the SH3 installation folder, if it's in a Ubisoft folder, delete it from that folder

hope this clarifies a little..

ahhh yes... i made the assumption that SH3 is the only ubisoft title the user has... as is the case with myself.

thanks for that clarification

Especially those of us (me, to be precise) who are still sitting on their fresh unmodded SH3/v1.4b and having to go to work for the next 5 days instead of hunting convoys.

Default Multi Install

I don't see anything about loading this in a Muliti install environment. Is this possible? I have a clean SH3 set up on a multi install in a GWX 2.0 folder ready to go. The last file just downloaded. It worked fine when I did it with 1.03 from a copy of the same stock install.

You can pick the directory you want to install to.
So Yes, Multi-installs are supported.
