Feeling good

After all my favorite mods have been made 1.4 compatible I decided to finally start a new career.
I got assigned to USS Pompano (stationed in Pearl) and was ordered to patrol Luzon strait. Not only is this the first career with patch 1.4 but it's also the first time I decided to play a career with manual targeting.
Now let me tell you why I'm feeling good:
I was patrolling the strait for some time when my look out spot a merchant going fast speed. So I intercept and dive ahead of him because dawn is coming fast. After a while he's close enough to identify him: A fast moving large modern tanker!
So I begin to calculate my firing solution and fire 2 torpedos. Both torpedos are heading straight for my target when I hear these awful words:"Torpedo is a dud,Sir." followed by "Torpedo is a dud,Sir."
Damn it! I fire a third torpedo and fourth. The third one hits around the bridge superstructure and the tanker breaks in half. The fourth one was wasted because the tanker is already sinking and .... because the the torpedo would have missed anyway.
Boy, I love this game!

Woot!

Manual targeting really steps up the enjoyment out of the game IMO.

Something about knowing that you actually put the torp on the target rather than the computer just makes it better.

About duds. I find that I've started shooting 3 or 4 fish at even smaller targets because of duds and prematures. End result is usually smaller patrol tonnage, which is good IMO. The real skippers didn't usually bring home 80K ton patrols.

I'm on my way back to port now in my current patrol, with 0 torps left. 4 merchies sunk for 24K tons, and 2 destroyers and 1 merchant damaged but not sunk. Not too bad i think.
