My First Mine
Last night, with a fresh install, new 1.4 patch and new TM mod, I start a new career in a Gato-class. I depart from Pearl with a mission to photo recon a harbor. After sinking one 4,000 ton ship, evading a couple angry escorts, and diving from numerous planes, I finally make it to Bungo Suido. I timed my entry niclely (or so I thought) and I entered the Striaht submerged at 100 ft just after sunset. As soon as I started making it through the Straight, BAM, instant-death screen. I was baffled. No aircraft sounds...no DD sounds...nothing. I started to think that perhaps there was a mine? I've heard tales of mined areas, but I've never seen one. Shis time I used the externam camera to try to look around, but it was FAR too dark underwater to see. Even stopping my engines imediately after reload...BAM- instant death screen. Have I hit my first mine? Or does this sound like some kind of bug?
Thanks, folks, Howler ![]() |

If after dark (hence no planes), and in shallow waters, without being detected by a tin can, then yes, you probably hit a mine. Ive no idea the damage they'd do now since i made the subs less like M1 ABRAMS battle tanks, but i imagine it be pretty catastrophic.
edit: and if memory serves correctly, i do think Tater put a few mines out that way. Best bet to enter the bungo straights, is at night, on the surface. |

Ducimus,
Thanks for the quick reply! And I can't thank you enough for all your work with Trigger Maru...it's fantastic! Although it was a tragic, unfortunate first patrol, I guess it's kinda cool in a way, that we found our demise by way of a mine, as several US subs did in WWII. So, mines won't be triggered on the surface? Thanks again Duc, Howler ![]() |

THey might. you have to come incontact with one first, and they tend to be submerged to nail a sub, rather then on the surface where they might nail "friendly" ships.

Right then! As soon as I get off work, I'll give 'er another shot! Either that or start fresh again with this new knowledge! For others out there using TM (not sure if they're in stock 1.4), there ARE mines out there, they ARE scary, and they ARE deadly!
![]() Much obliged, Howler ![]() |

I wrote a thread asking about almost the same problem. My sub sank when I reloaded a game after I had been sunk, by a destroyer. I had to reload a earlier savegame, and it worked fine. So it looks like the savgeames are becoming corrupt after beeing sunk...but it doesnt seem to affect savegames made a bit before the latest...

It doesn't make sense to save a game after dying. I wouldn't call that "corruption" but reality. Like having the doctor show up after you're buried. -Pv- |
