1.4 wants to install on C only

When I run the 1.4 patch it installs on the C drive when
my SH4 is on D! There does not seen to be any way of directing
the patch to the D drive.
Any ideas anyone?
By the way because of this I have completely uninstalled
SH4 and everything connected with it- I will try again with a new
install. But I am interested does everyone else find that
the patch installed on their chosen drive?

THIS IS FOR XP ONLY

You can change the default installation location for all programs:

Start/Run, type REGEDIT then ENTER

BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY

After you back up your registry, this is how you can change this default location.

1. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
2. Find ProgramFilesDir whose default should be C:\Program Files
3. Change this to whatever directory you wish. I changed it to D:\Games for example, since I mostly fool around with games.

For any non-game apps that I need to install, I just do a custon install and point them to "C:\Program Files ".

Remember you have to reboot for your changes to show.

Hope this helps.

This is strange, I have SH4 installed on d:\games and 1.4 found it with no problems. However, 1.4 does extract all of the files to a temp ditctory in C before actually updating the install on the D drive.

Did you have SH4 installed on your C drive previously? If so, you may need to delete some registry entries. Safest way is to uninstall SH4, open regedit and search for entries using "silent hunter" as your search terms. Delte the entries and start from scratch with the install.

(I just had to do this after using system restore. SH4 would not run, uninstall, or reinstall)

Good luck

The guy who worked on the installer for the patch tested it on the H: partition and it worked fine.

Maybe you had installed the game twice (coexisting on your hard drives), once on D: and once on C: and the latter remained mentioned in the registry.

The patch installer just takes the installation path information from the registry. If your registry is corrupted because of past uninstalls/installs, then the patch installer may not find your current working version of your SHIV installation (eg. just deleting the game folder instead of running Windows uninstaller from the control panel, and then reinstalling somewhere else - your registry information for the game can get corrupted).

I installed SHIV on my G drive, that being a separate hard drive. When I installed the patch, it found the game on G no problem.

I also use Eusing registry cleaner help sort out problems...Look here:
