Default LOD & Visual Distance

I just purchased SH4 and have a couple of questions. I've also used "search", but can not find the answers to either of my questions.

1. What is LOD in the graphics options page, and what does the LOD setting do to the FPS in the game ???

2. What is the viewing distance in SH4 ??? In SH3, the default viewing distance is 8km before the mods increased it to 16km, but I have not figured out what SH4's viewing distance is.

Thanks.

1. LOD is just "Level of detail", which refers to the models and skins of the various objects in game, i.e how detailed said object is. I can't say how much it impacts performance though; I have an 8800 so any fps hit is minimal if any.

Just a note about the graphics settings. If you're concerned about performance then I'd suggest switching off the 'Volumetric Fog' setting. Doing just this could easily double your fps.

2. View distance is still currently 8 km, however, word on the street is that this is being upgraded to 20 km with the upcoming 1.4 patch. Though there are a couple mods out there that adjust the view distance already, for example the ROW mod among others.
