Default A Request

What is the feasability of making a CD or DVD which includes all (or most) of the most popular/useful mods with an install routine for those of us like myself who only have limited time to install/troubleshoot/configure their SH4. I really and truly spend more time "tweaking" my sim than playing it. While yes, this is part of the fun, I am getting to the point that I would rather pay good money (to SUBSIM) to have this sort of legwork packaged into one neat disk - (sort of our own community expansion pack) that was easily installable. You could make a couple of choices like Trigger Maru, or RFB?

Granted, all of this would be freeware which the authors agreed to use in this way - proceeds to pay for the production of said disks and "donations" built in to help finance the operation of the SUBSIM website would all be most agreeable to me. I think we would all benefit. Modders get some good recognition and appreciation, SUBSIM benefits, and simmers benefit too. I have been away for a few months (busy IRL), and am overwhelmed at the prospect of trying to catch up to all of the fantastic mods that have been done for SH4.

Who else would be interested/willing to pay for such a thing? Neal? What do you think?

Regards,

Mylander

Maybe when SH4 gets to the point where SH3 is now and major mod updates are few and far between. As it stands now, I think that modders are just getting comfortable working with the game and it seems like there's constantly an update to this mod, or a new version of that mod being released.

Not to mention when the patch and expansion come out, there's going to be a host of new toys for them to play with and mod.

Roger that - maybe the timing is not quite there yet, but I think after v1.4 that's probably all she wrote from Ubisoft, then maybe all can be packaged neatly and released as a SUBSIM uber mod pack. Anyway, just an idea for now, I'm just wondering how much interest and support there would be for such a thing

I like the idea; even with JSGME out there I find myself in the same situation. Do I like it modded this way or that way? Don't know yet if I'd pay for it.... I might... it would depend. Partly because I also agree with what mookiemookie says; things are just now getting into full swing and we don't really know what 1.4 will be like yet. But I for one do like the idea.

Greetings from up the road in Wilson.

Too early in the patch life-cycle to set mods in cement. Modders are going to be learning and making striking break-throughs for a long time yet.

When UBI OFFICIALLY announces no more patches (not rumors, not the doom and gloomers) then it's time to start looking at the maturity of the popular mods.

There has been a sizable group of doomers who predicted there would be no more patches after every patch released so far. I suspect the add-on will keep at least some attention on important show-stoppers until the add-on is released which is quite a way off right now. Don't expect your favorite compartment to get fully rendered with crew shoving torps into the tubes and other graphical back-hole projects. Don't expect major changes to things the devs have said they are not going to change like the engines. I for one (and I may be the only one) very much expect game logic problems that are identifyable and can be reproduced in stock-patched games on properly configured computers WILL get the attention of the patch team at least until one or more add-ons are released.

Hey Bro, We're practically neighbors! Small world, isn't it? The picture in my sig is at Cape Lookout - one end of "Torpedo Junction" in '42. Last summer I dove on the wreck of U-352 about 30 miles offshore from Cape Lookout. Very cool stuff.
