Default WWII Subvet Approved Depth Charge Audio

Here is Version 2 of my attempt to recreate a historical depth charge explosion. I played it for a subvet that has heard a few and he said, "It sounds like a depth charge going off at a safe distance". We also concluded that there is really no way to reproduce a really close one without blowing up everyone's speakers as they were tremendously loud. 600 pounders dwarfed the 300's in volume and shock value as well. He also said the sound would be somewhat different according to how deep they were set.

As an average, he told me this audio is pretty good. He also volunteered to help me better understand by putting me in a barrel, sealing me in and setting a stick of dynamite on top. Now do that at random times for a few hours and I'd get the idea ...

I thought it might be worth it if I took a good microphone in with me. But--then again... Suffice it to say, I declined the offer of assistance . I like you guys but not that much !

So here it is. Your feedback and comments are more than welcome. Anyone who would like to work with this file is free to do so.

It is probably different than what you expect depth charges to sound like but--then again--how many of us have actually heard an explosion while we're underwater? I haven't and from what I've learned, I never want to!!!

I'll test it and see if my speakers can handle your damage! Thanks by the way.

That's a very good observation !!! I've tried to lengthen it some but an having trouble doing it without getting "clipping" in the audio.

Are you speaking from experience Myxale? Becuase that was exactly what the WWII Vet told me!

Cheers!

God no, I'm the Anti-Air Guy!
Never been on a Sub!:hmm:

But i heard a training Tape for the Soundpeople once, and the DC's lasted quite! long...lemme tell you that!

It sounded like:
At first there is a sudden Roaring Bang; and a knock like sound mixed in it. And Water rushing like a static noise while fading out.

It lasts over a minute! Or as long till the next DC goes of! It's quite the cacophony!

That's what I understand (have been told) to. Trying reproduce all that though is quite a challenge! And--frankly--I'm trying to achieve sort of an "average" (if there is one ). I'm afraid to really do it I'd need to get my hands on an old Arp 2600 Synthesizer and those are rare indeed.

Thanks for the response and Happy Hunting!!!

Here's a good source on how a DC sounds from inside the submarine. The Submarine part is in the very end.

I think that might be the same track I posted above. The explosions heard via the sonar bouys are long because the explosion is too loud and it overloads the bouy, making it sound like a very long explosion.

Actually--that's what I clipped this from. the trouble is, that is multiple dc's that roll together. The vet I am working with said he thinks it probably 4 and possibly more... So I'm trying to take a clip out of the whole thing and lose the echo effect (which he said is another charge).

I'll be working on it some more--just trying to get the perfect splice in the middle to lengthen the file some. But tonight--I'll be at sea I think !

Thanks for the interest and input guys!!!!!!
