Default Where are the mines?

Howdy guys,

I have been playing SH4 for a while now, and keep hearing references to mining here and there in straits, sea of japan, etc...

I have not been deployed as such to go find out for sure, but do classic ball and chain minefields exist in the game and if so, where? If they do, late war, early war? Ive only played from about Dec8 through late '43, usually in south pacific waters.

Maybe Im crazy, but something somewhere in a manual or this forum lead me to believe theyre there.

I don't know about mines in the stock campaign, but at least Tater's Improved Campaign layers have them, and I believe Run Silent Run Deep Campaign too. The paper map that comes with SH4 has mined areas marked, but I've never checked if they are actually mined or if it's just for immersion. Oh yeah, don't believe everything that's written in the manual, since there are lots of mistakes and stuff that applies to SH3, but not SH4.

Do a search for "mines" in this forum. I have seen people post pics of their sub near them shown clearly in the un-modded game. I suspect you are more likely to find them in Japan ports as opposed to the South Seas in general.

I saw some trying to get into the Sea of Japan in late 44 (I think). I was raising my periscope and just got a glimpse of it. I quickly switched to the external camera and sure enough, thats what it was. The bad news is, thats the only one I've seen. When I finish this current career, I'm gonna install Taters campaign layers and I'm really looking forward to it.

I happened across some mines (using external view, eye candy) and I can't remember the patrol area...but I do remember thinking...pretty cool that they have been included for reality sake. But now, you have me thinking about a couple of patrol experiences I had where my boat took such extensive damage (submerged) that I'm inclind to believe I may have hit a mine or two. Not sure...just died.

FYI...The patrol map provided when you buy the game idicates the areas that are supposed to be mined. They're color coded for the year in which the area was laid.

I would report on the existance of mines but they didn't give me the opportunity to send a message.

Overdue, presumed lost .

That's odd. Have you browsed around in the installation folder? Even a D2D version should have a .pdf of the map, just like the hard copy.

Should have been a folder with that download called "Bonus something or another."

I know ... my program is a download version too. I the above mentioned folder there is a map. It's not too clear but its still a map.
