Default Raiding ports?

I have tried a few times to sneak in ports in hopes of killing a idle warship or merchant...only to find the port empty and barren.

Is there some sort of procedure one much follow when attacking?

I am using GWX and SH3 Commander.

Mike

Try scapa flow or Loch ewe in the beginning of the war.

depends on the port and the time of year.

I think you will find that plenty of ports in GWX are thriving with parked ships, while others may be completely empty.

One thing to consider when port raiding is that there may be several escorts patrolling the entrances to the port, also the shallow waters around ports are usually dotted with mine fields and anti sub nets.

great risk to infiltrate a port when there is chance of little or now reward if you ask me.

Ah I still remember the first time I got brave enough to go into a port.
Twas Scappa flow, I sunk two tankers, and two destroyers, all in a single attack,
with my little type II A. I got chased by the last destroyer, he came in for his run
was off by a few hundred yards, I surfaced and ran away at ahead to flank. :rotfl:
I was rewarded by sailing into port with my best patrol ever, and was awarded a
knights cross. I'll never forget that patrol...

I tried raiding this one port on the coast of Africa, I forget the name, but there wasn't a daggone thing in there so I left. 30 minutes later, ahead flank and 1024x normal speed, I get stomped on and sunk by a destroyer.
Just goes to show you, if it's safe nearby it isn't necessarily safe to let it get to your head, it just might rear up and bite you where it counts

I've done quite a few raids

Check out SH3gen, it's a little tool to simulate in-game intel reports about enem ship sightings.
Maybe it helps you a little bit in your quest

Link to Global-Explorer's site for the tool: http://www.global-explorer.de/

Granted, I'm not playing GWX at the moment. In Stock SH3 I make it a point to raid ports, even late in the war. In November of 1944 I raided Hartlepool in U568 and sank a T-2 Tanker and a C-2 Cargo vessel, damaged another tanker but she just wouldn't go down.

Also killed a pair of V&W Destroyers on my way out of Hartlepool.

My first raid (Gibraltor) sucked. I received no credit for the T-2 tanker I sunk because I dived before it was destroyed...
