Default Evasive Maneuvering

Is it my imagination, or is there not much evasive maneuvering done by merchant vessels in GWX? Maybe I’m missing the boat (no pun intended) by not using manual targeting, but here’s an example. In square AN18, April 1940, I stumbled onto a 6500 British CV. Completely unescorted at 2300 hours, lumbering along at 6 knots. I ran parallel to his track at high speed on the surface for a better angle from about 2500 meters. I found myself lit up like a Hollywood sound stage by two British searchlights from the target, the U-35 was obviously detected. At about 95 degrees off his starboard bow, I turned and closed in. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.
The CV had plenty of time to change course and speed, but just kept slogging along as though that THING in the lights was a wet Winston Churchill. I can’t remember seeing much evasive action from convoy targets after the first torpedo hit either, other than star shells and sporadic gunfire. So I guess what I’m asking is… is evasive action by merchant vessels historically accurate in SHIII GWX and I just don’t see it??? Or not??
