Mod for Type IA??
Hi. I'm new, so it may already be out there… but, is there a mod available to play the Type IA U-Boat in Silent Hunter III?

Wilkommen zum Subsim Herr Kaleun!
I don't recall there being a mod which models this sub type. IIRC there were only two of them in service and both were sunk by the end of 1940 anyway apart from being used primarily for minelaying duties. According to my reading on the subject they were a pig of a boat to sail as well (IIRC Clay Blair in his books refers to them several times as "clumsy"), so I don't think anyone has bothered to model them. Would be interesting to play with from an historical perspective but they don't sound like they'd be much fun. Gute Jagd! |

Would be interesting historically indeed, but there's always the catch that for each new boat introduced we have to throw out another one. I wouldn't mind losing one of the Typ II variants or even the Typ IX B for a new boat, but as with the Typ XXIII it is doubtful that the effort is worth it all with the Typ I A. From my perspective the German-built boat for the Turkish Navy that was pressed into service as U-A would be interesting to play since it survived the war

Thanks very much for your replies. I know that U-25 and U-26 were the only Type IAs in service, and that they had poor handling characteristics, but I still think they might be fun for careers early in the war (for patrols in the North Sea, for example).
