Default Moving to England

My wife got orders to Mildenhall AFB and I was wondering how many of you folks are around that area?

I guess I have always wanted someone to talk about SH3 in person with.

thanks

Mike

Well, I'm sure there is someone nearer than me. Mildenhall is about 200 miles away from where I am.

Bury Saint Edmunds! I've been there. Very nice place IIRC (I was a student back then so my memory of it is a bit... fuzzy )

Stay on base and out of harms reach of the dreaded Political Madness and you should be OK.

By the way, we drive on the right side of the road. :rotfl:

Default london

Well I do plan on spending most of my weekends in London considering it is only 2 hours away and I will be able to spend the day shopping and looking around.

While I am thinking about it, I hear that europe still has some interesting U-boat related sights to see...anything you folks know of?

But like I said, I will be searching for friends when I get there and I will have several years to make some, so if any of you want to meet at a pub or something...I will be glad to have a pint with any of you.

Default The wife

I have a feeling if my wife was to go to london we would be broke.

I should arrive by january (if not a bit later due to the passport waiting game) so I will stay on these boards and keep you guys posted as things develop.

My wife will be arriving before I will due to waiting on my passport to come in so I will at least not have to worry about unpacking...I get to spend some months back in my home state for some nice snowboarding.

I hope I get a chance to meet some of you...not often do I meet people as passionate about WWII U-boat topics and general history.

Well, whilst you are here, take advantage of the chance to visit:

Royal Navy submarine museum, Gosport, featuring:

X-craft
The Holland I (the highlight, IMHO)
1960s diesel sub tour - the guides actually served on her - so loads of personal experiences if you ask

Liverpool:

Sadly you can no longer tour the Type IX boat - the barbarians are planning to cut her up.

But - do not miss the Atlantic War Rooms - where all the convoys were co-ordinated. Quirky opening times, though, so check carefully in advance.
