arternoon submates

I have three wonderings to lay before you. The first is about an armed tug that had ( I think) been escorting the merchant that I downed off Lowestoft. Naturally he came rushing back to find me when the first torp went off and spent sometime looking in the wrong place for me while I hovered around in the right place waiting to see if the merchant would go or not. Well it did, with much creaking and groaning and eventually I got the sunken ship marked on my chart, so, satisfied that I could go home I looked around to see where the trawler was. Well he was there ok, sitting quietly in the water with no searchlights on, not moving, but with the engine ticking over, and there he stayed. I wondered why - was it because he was listening for me or out of respect for the ship just disappearing beneath the waves? I like to think it was the latter. To test the situation I surfaced and roared off at full speed, but, although the lookouts spotted him, he didn't seem in a rush to come after me.

The reason I hung around was because I wasn't sure I had truly killed the merchant, as I have said, but when I got the shipwreck mark on the chart, it wasn't red but grey, and I wonder why. It was definitely a British flag, not a neutral, so why wasn't it red?

When I got back to base, having done about five patrols in the same area, and having read a thread on here about transfers, I thought I would see if I could transfer too, get a different bit of the wet to explore, so I went to the telephone and saw the transfer form and clicked on 2nd flotilla - but still I find myself in the old tub and going back to AN81... is it because I only have 2500-ish renown or am too junior or summat?
