Default speed and course estimate using sonar

Is it possible to get a speed and course estimates using sonar. The same way that you can, using the periscope and stadimeter? As far is I can see all you need is range and bearing data collected over a period of time. Can you aquire this using the sonar clicking the send to tdc buton as you go then go to periscope view and press the estimate speed button. Or do you have to do it manually, cos this would be cool.

Theoretically, you could do this manually (Currently impossible in automated mode AFAIK) in two ways (And it wouldn't be historically inaccurate in neither of them)

1.- Count propeller turns per minute

2.- Take several bearings to target and, based on some guessing of certain parameters, make a speed/range/AOB estimate.

I have been doing it manually (man I have to get a girlfriend sry could'nt resist) using an excellent tutorial provided by WernerSobe, plotting the contact on the nav map to get course and speed I was just wondering if you could do it all through the TDC. Getting lazy in me old age

the answer is no.

unfortunaly the speed estimate tool doesnt take in account bearing sent to tdc by sonar. It can only handle bearing and range taken by stadimeter.

You have only one option. Manual plot.
