I'm writing this as I watch K-19 The Widowmaker, and was wondering, is anyone planning in releasing a Cold War Era sub-sim. Would anyone be interested in something like this? I think that would be quite interesting.

There might have been a discussion about that recently somewhere else in the forum.
The result was that some or most people said it would be too boring to chase subs for hours or more without any real action. |

Yes this has been discussed a few times here at Subsim. My view has always been that Sub Command with the SCX mod has achieved this. There are plenty of scenarios out there that are both interesting and contain lots of action. However, if you are looking for cutting edge graphics, forget it. With the SCXII mod several cold war era boats were introduced into SC with the result that more cold war type missions were designed for it. This is why I am of the opinion that SC and to some degree DW have already done the cold war subsim. There have been many to argue that Ubisoft should do a sim along the lines of Silent Hunter for the cold war era, but I feel the successful campaign aspect of the SH series would not adapt itself well to the cold war. The cold war lasted from the end of WWII to 1990, a period of 45 years and I think it would be difficult to build a campaign covering this long period. Thats why in SC and DW, campaigns are not heavily featured its mainly played with custom one-off missions.
