Default Type XXI question.....

I know this has been asked before (as I did a search here), and there were plenty of responses:

How do you mod the config files so that you can obtain a type XXI in 1939?

Now the thread that I found (and it took FOREVER TO FIND THE THING!!) the person posting showed several long posts of what it was they had changed, but were having problems in game. There were several comments back and forth, but no answers really, to where the person had to do a whole reinstall!

Of course, many of us simply use SH3 and GWX as it is. But there comes a time when curiosity and the wanting to do something becomes powerful enough to want to try something.

So I'll ask the question again:

Is there a tutorial or posting that shows how to modify your configuration files so that you can make things like the Type XXI u-boat and other equipment available earlier? One that works?

Andy,

That "Person" who had to do a complete re-install was ME!

And only because I failed to remember to back up the files I was working with. As long as you make copies of what you are working with, you won't have to re-install.

Ah! Yes that was you. Seeing your name prompts the memory.

I'll remember to back up the files first.

Here it is (whew! took a min to find again! hhahahah))

Warning: I still could not get it to work right, even though I went and changed the floatilla info both in SH3 and Commander. :shrugs:
Maybe you'll have better luck than me. I gave up.

You can get it in '44 at Burgen if you start a career in SH3CM

:rotfl:

I know! I was just wondering what it'd be like to have it in 1939. Most likely neat at first, and then boring.
I like my Type IXB just fine though. I only wish it'd go just a LITTLE faster when submerged (Convoy is at 8 knots sir! Our speed is 7 knots sir! Sigh. Someone get Benard out and pushing the boat! :rotfl

I edited my flotilla and basic cfg files to get the XXI in 39 and it was great for about 30 mins, till you see that coastal merchant or something. Then you've to decide whether or not to waste a torp on it or not. I tend to save mine for larger tonnage myself. So I found myself missing out on a nice chunk of tonnage that I could have had with a deck gun. Past 42 the XXI was really nice to have, since I rarely get to use the deck gun then.

Default XXI in 1939 7-zip files

I have posted the modified files at http://hosted.filefront.com/mtwzd.

These files were modified by myself following jimbunas instructions at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ight=type+1939.

Unzip someplace safe. Backup your current copies of the included folder and 2 files. Replace them with the new files.

I have used this successfully in many careers in stock and GWX 1.0.

All weapons are functional and it has an advanced torpedo loadout.

An interesting alternative for hunting convoys.
