Four decades later, he has spent nearly $340 million trying to redo that same technology, which he now believes is far behind the times....

Outdated?

Since a couple of days I am happy owner of the 16 DVD box with the complete episodes of "Space 1999" (aka Moonbase Alpha 1).

Now, that equipement is what I call outdated!

And you're going to share your old Space 1999 now aren't you? That series used to freak me out as a kid when I occasionally got to watch it.

I believe one of the fathers of the internet was quoted earlier as saying that if they had to do it all over again, people would have to have a license to get connected to the internet, proving that they (a) knew how to operate a computer properly, (b) knew how to connect to the internet, and (c) knew how to conduct themselves properly on usenet newsgroups (as well as web forums), i.e., none of this <AOL> ME TOO! </AOL> crap.

The internet, if re-done, would probably have lots more security on it now than it currently has. As it stands now, hackers and criminals exploit so many open mail servers, and create so many botnets, it's a wonder the whole thing hadn't come crashing to it's knees already.

When it was first set up, no one had any idea that criminals would take advantage of the "trust" that was so prevalent here. Then they allowed commercial sites on it, and the whole thing went down hill from there.

Hopefully, in Internet V2.0, servers will come with full security as defaulted ON, SMTP servers will be set up with full security ON instead of those open port 25's that spammers took advantage of, and any and all PC's on cable or DSL will be forbidden to be connected to anything even CLOSE to the internet without a hardware firewall box between IT and the modem.

Well, I can dream, can't I?
