Default Snorchel

Hello

Sorry if this topic has been brought up before, but is it possible to make the snorting more realistic in SHIII?

2 Things really annoy me

1) Even with the snorchel raised and the diesels on it's still possible to pick up and track contacts with the hydrophones even though the boat is supposed to be totally deph

2) A uboat that is snorting is supposed to be quite noisy, but using the snorchel doesn't seem to have any effect on the stealth at all

Is it possible to do anything about this? Or has it already been tried before without success?

Default Fix

Heh...your #1 is an easy fix.

Just remove your sonar operator (leave his position empty)while snorkeling.

You won't get any report of contacts that way.

Default Heh

Heh. As for #2

While not entirely 'realistic'...think of it as a tradeoff in your favor for some of the uber-characteristics that the escorts and aircraft pick up in the late stages of the war.

ANYTHING that can help keep you stay alive in this game from 1944 to the end is welcome to me!! It's almost impossible to survive to the end even with this (the silent snokeling) small concession!!

Some things can't be changed within the game engine as far as I know...this sounds like one of those things, it's probably hard coded.

I know that's probably not what you were looking for in an answer...but it's the best I could think of!

@Hellraiser

:hmm: That's okay, thanks at least for trying to help

I actually tried to remove the sonar man and it actually gives that bigger feeling of being blind, though a bit artificial it works

As for number 2....well if it's hard coded then there's not much to do no.......
