Contact your DSL/fibre optic provider and see what their recommendations and/or requirements are... Without knowing exactly what their line encoding and tranmission protocols are, it's hard to make a further specific recommendation... There are at least two 2701HG variations, B and D...

Moreover, if by your post your indicating a future upgrade of the local physical network to fibre (to your house? or just the backbone?), I'd wait until it was functional and then buy a new router...

BTW, 20 yrs in the business, including 6yrs as an ISP owner/network engineer... trust me... it's good advice...

Simple....

I would wait it out... Sounds like a backbone upgrade and they may still use copper in what we call the "last mile" to residences... Who can fathom the mind of Qwest? Brings back memories of the many dealings with them all the way back to the US West days...

As for the specs on the Actiontec M1000, it appears to be a perfectly capable DSL modem and as long as Qwest lists it as compatible with their system, I'd say, no issues...

Don't worry about it "under-performing". Networks are like huge waterpipes, you can only force so much water (data bandwidth) through them and the more users sharing the pipe the less water (relative data speed) you get... and there are many other issues that will affect "speed" as well.

Your DSL modem performance generally won't be an issue...

Like I said though, if there is any possiblity that they will bring fibre "to your door" I'd wait it out...

Cheers!
