Default I feel like a wazzock

Ok I decided to go for a clean install of SH4 prior to mods. Game wouldn't uninstall.

Can anybody guess what I did next without thinking first ? Yeah thats right i deleted the folder

Now the game won't re-install says it had detected a previous 1.0.3.00 version and it requires uninstalling, but there is NOTHING to uninstall.

Open to advice and meaningless flames

Ok i somehow managed to fix it but flame on anyway

I recommend attempting a reinstall of the game even though you have it on the hard drive. It might give you option of remove, repair or modify. Click repair if it does. Then uninstall after it has repaired.

Dinsdale lives on! This is proof that after failing miserably with his invention of 80-grit toilet paper, Dinsdale changed his name to Carcharadidntdoitdon and began a research project into Windows installation procedures. Looks like when he releases his universal uninstall program it will make us all forget about how harmful viruses are.

My suggestion would have been to do exactly waht I did when in the same shoes only a few days ago and that was to search the registry and delete any folders with Silent Hunter 4 on them. One of which contains the current version number. After that you can reinstall fine but make sure you reinstall to the same location as before to ensure all old files are overwritten.

It also happen recently to me with MTW2 as well as SH4. I think its something introduced in some recent Windows update that prevents you from installing over previous later versions. Ive never noticed it until recently. Its a right pain thats for sure.

Not my real name ? I should bloody hope this is not my real name I'd be inside right now doing hard time for the murder of my parents if this was my real name. I wanted Carcharadon of Great White Shark fame but I decided to make it silly at the same time by adding 'didn't do it' into the word .

I have no idea who this Dinsdale character you refer to is.

Sorry, I had no idea you would take me seriously there. I was just having fun with your de-installation boo-boo. Hope you followed the link in reallydedpoet's post to get some background on our inside Dinsdale running joke. And after you do that, you're an official insider! Welcome to subsim and we're glad to have you here.

OOOO I can see how you were offended if you though I might be accusing you of inventing 80-grit toilet paper....... bad choice there, certainly no one would believe thet YOU would invent something like that? But you thought I was calling you not you so the possibility is somewhat open.....would you believe 60-grit wet/dry toilet paper?
