Upgraded sub is a downgrade (help!)

I started a new campaign from Pearl Harbor with the 1.3 patch and TM 1.6.2. I picked the earliest date and decided to go for a Gar, after a few patrols and a lot of tonnage I was given the option for a new sub, so I went for it. They gave me a Porpoise! What the hell is going on? lol

Is there a fix for this or something? I already saved in the harbor, so I can't decline the upgrade. Has anyone got any ideas?

Unfortunatly, unless you dont have a AutoSave before the new command, you're out of luck

..

However, don't count a Porpoise out of the fight so soon, albeit it may have some disadvantages compared to the Gar, be patient and it's just as lethal..

So, in answer to your question, unless you don't purge your saves, your screwed (pardon the language).
