re-install issues

It has been suggested that I re-install SHIV and upgrade to patch 1.3 as a possible solution to desktop crashes. I have a few mods, the nav map 360 deg mod, a few keystroke mods, and some sound mods. I assume I can backup my current config file and sound files to get back to the sounds and keystroks I want, as far as the map mods are concerned, does the mod enabler work with the 1.3 patch, and can I save my current career and the one custom mission that I manages to creats,( I finally suceeded in eliminating the escorts from the Borneo convoy mission, to use it as a manual TDC training mission, I have no idea how I did it and went through a lot of time and trouble to do it.) Joe S...trust me, we all have a good idea how long and hard work it took to get you game to the state it is in. The mod enabler works with 1.3. My take on saving old game etc, these files might contain the very issue that is causing CTD and I recommend a clean install of all files. Play the game without your mods. If no CTD happen then start adding mods one by one in hopes none cause any CTD.
