Every christmas my mum would leave a dozen bottles of beer for the rubbish guys as a thankyou present, they came to her funeral and paid their respects, quite hardcase to see them turned up in the dump truck

A vitally important job it is too.....think of the state the community and environment would be in if the rubbish wasn't collected for a month or so :hmm:

I've a couple of friends that work for the local authority and when asked what they think of their job, the stock reply is "a load of rubbish" Get them in a more serious frame of mind and they'll tell you how hard it can be....especially in the winter months.

Yeah the winter is hard, i dont wear gloves when i do the collections because they irritate my skin and are also dangerous for me cause my hands are small, but when im getting snow all over them then getting into a hot cab it hurts like hell.

I walk about 12 to 15 miles a day and load at least 10 tonnes of rubbish on our first load and another 6 or 7 on our second and we can do 1900 properties in around 5 to 6 hours sometimes less.

As its job and knock alot of us are running every where some of us run the entire route. so you do have to be physically as well as stomachly fit.

Plus you have to take the abuse as well cause your always in the firing line.

I salute you Kapitan,
A tough and odorious job. I used to be a commercial truck enforcement officer in Los Angeles. My job was to cite overloaded commercial trucks. A lot of the trucks were rubbish trucks that the companies had running long routes. Usually Monday mornings and rainy days were the best for overweight trucks. Never wrote the drivers a ticket. I would write the citation to the company as they could have shortened the routes. Made some good friends with the drivers...........all in a days work, Good luck

Yeah its not odd really, in our yard we load out glass and on a bad day you will get only 25 tonne so we send them through the was a few times soon gets the wieght up to 28 and 29 tonnes.

When it rains our lorry can pack 9800kg on a real sunny day we will struggle to get 7900kg water makes all the diffrence
