Has any1 encourted problems when trying to install GWX mod while using vista!

Starters Vista doesnt know if the 1.4 patch is actualy installed, but when you start the game up it says its running it. but i cant install GWX because vista says the 1.4 isnt installed any ideas! i have updated everytin possbile, star force etc...! im running out of ideas and am going round in circles! uninstalling sh3 and reinstalling etc...

run the patches and GWX installers with the "Run as Administrator" in the right click menu.

I had the same problem, and fixed it that way. Right click > Run as Administrator

It's an extra step, but it works.

i guess ignore the sound file an continue for the moment- as it sounds like you dont have a choice - hopefully it wont cause major problems.. if you experience any unexpected CTDs or errors during gameplay -we will take it from there.

My only system is XP + GWX - and it works fine.

I don`t know why but i use both opperation system on my pc XP and Vista and everything work perfect

same here. Installed everything on my new laptop running Vista Ultimate and everything (game wise) is ok. I have other issues with Vista that I'm not very happy about at all but nothing with SH3 and GWX.

You might wanna install SH3 *outside* of Program Files, as doing so will avoid most of the problems you are having (like File Virtualization).

Two MAJOR problems with this approach:

1. It condones bandaids and IS merely putting off the inevitable;
2. The nature of LZMA compression means that, unlike in a zip file, once one file is corrupt, all subsequent files cannot be accessed. In other words, he hits ignore on this file, he'll then get the same error message on the next file, then the next, then the next, then 1,500 files later...CTD!

So, rather than try to bandaid the problem, Herr_Pete needs to re d/l the corrupted bin file from scratch and use an MD5 compare programme (such as the free one from my site) to validate the file integrity *before* installing. Otherwise, it's too late and he's guaranteed to have to start all over again.

Sorry, I just loathe the continued "just delete the file/ignore the error" responses that are thrown up so frequently on this forum whenever users have install problems. All doing so does is move the problem further down the line, and harder to find to cause.
